Consequences If You Don’t Activate Microsoft Office

Microsoft Office is indispensable for those who use spreadsheets, text documents, and presentation slides in their work or studies. It is a complete package that allows you to create, manage and send documents in any format. Although there have been many pretenders to the Office throne in recent years, it is still a fact that Microsoft Office is the best application bundle for creating, managing, and forwarding documents in any common format.

Many computers that are not called Mac Book come with Microsoft Office installed. It is usually not the full package of legacy apps Word, Excel PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access. However, Microsoft Word and Excel are often included. It is also not the complete version of these apps, but a limited-time version that expires after the Microsoft subscription expired.

The bundled productivity apps that make Microsoft Office available on a new Windows machine are available on a trial basis unless the OEM has paid for activation (unlikely). The 30-day trial usually lasts 30 days before Windows prompts you to activate Office. You’d love to do this, but Office is extremely expensive. Office 2019 Home and Student editions contain Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. However, they cost $119.99 for a one-time payment. Office 365 Home costs $79.99 per year or $7.99/m.

It is understandable that you don’t want to spend a lot of money on Office because of the high costs. What happens if Office is not licensed after the trial period or Microsoft subscription expired? Continue reading to learn more.

What happens if my Microsoft Office has not been activated?

It is common sense that you will lose functionality if you use an unlicensed version. Each application has its own features, but you will lose editing and creating capabilities. You cannot edit or create new documents during your Office unlicensed period. Office apps will be more popular than any other app.

Prior to Office 365, users activated Office using product keys. These keys were either included with the Office installation discs or purchased online. Your Microsoft account details are stored in the cloud. This is the current method. The office adopts a subscription model. You will no longer be able to purchase special editions like the Student and Home editions through one-time payments. Instead, you will need to pay subscription fees at specific intervals in order to continue using Office.

Let’s get back to the point. How Office behaves after the 30-day trial ends is dependent on how you signed up. The office will be shipped to those who have purchased Office with their new computers. They will receive a prompt prompting them to purchase a copy of Office. However, if Office 365 was downloaded, there will not be a prompt asking you to pay for it. If you enable recurring billing, your account will automatically be migrated from trial to full mode after the expiration date of the free trial. You will also be billed for the Office version you choose during the period. If you only plan to use Office for a trial period, you should not activate it. However, you can manually pay for the activation of Office if you receive a prompt.

You will receive one of many messages from Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher informing you that your Microsoft subscription expired and that you need to make a purchase. These messages are available in Microsoft Word

  • Product deactivated Please reactivate Word now to continue using it without interruption this orange rectangle is located between the toolbar & the page. It contains a white substance. Reactivate Click the button beside the message
  • We are sorry. Unfortunately, we cannot help you right now. Please try again later error message: This appears as an error bar. At this point, one cannot use the application.
  • Unlicensed Product/Product activation Failure Both appear in the title bar right next to the title for the open document. The latter message may show up in place of the first. However, you can still use Word’s full functionality for an indeterminate time.
  • Microsoft Office Activation Wizard: It appears as soon as a Word document opens. It informs you that your application copy isn’t activated. There are options to (re)activate it.

Deactivation of Office apps for Windows

There are many things that can occur when you use Microsoft Office. If Microsoft subscription expired, one of these things can happen:

  • Constant Failed Product Activation Messages
  • You might get error messages indicating that your Word or Excel copy may be fake.
  • As time passes, disabled features become more severe
  • You can enter your product key in some versions of Office.
  • In-Office 2019, you get a sign-in prompt
  • Your account will be disabled 31-120 days after activation if you signed up via Office 365
  • Your account has been closed and decommissioned, permanently removing you from the Office program

Auslogics Anti-Malware is recommended to protect your Office apps and prevent problems from arising when you use them. It will completely wipe out harmful and dangerous items from your computer. It is easy to download and install. Then it will scan your computer for possible sources of damage. They will be quarantined.
